A working fluid passes through the first heat exchanger, which contains an evaporator. This takes heat from the air and turns it into a gas
The gas is then compressed to force a raise in temperature
A second heat exchanger is used to feed through the compressed gas, which heats a working fluid. This now hot fluid supplies a traditional heating system if required
Finally, the gas is fed through an expansion valve which releases the heat, reducing pressure and temperature. The hot gas is condensed and turned back into a cool liquid. The cycle can then be repeated
